Just What the Doctor Ordered (Part 2)

First Words:

The __________ Story – John 1:35-46

The __________ Story – Luke 5:1–11

1 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret,

2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of

them and were washing their nets.

3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put

out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the

boat.

4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the

deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing!

But at your word I will let down the nets.”

6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and

their nets were breaking.

7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them.

And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying,

“Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”

9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish

that they had taken,

10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners

with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you

will be catching men.”

11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and

followed him.

A. ________ My _______ – Luke 9:23-27 – And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”

B. _______ My _________ – Luke 14:28-33 – For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a

foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has

cannot be my disciple.

C. _______ My _________ – Luke 9:57-62 – As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have

nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own

dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to

the plow and looks back is fit f or the kingdom of God.”
