Resurrection Responsibilities
Resurrection Responsibilities
What’s a Christ-Follower to do the day after Easter?
First Words:
1 Peter 3:15-16 – But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
A. I have a responsibility to know the __________ of the resurrection.
– “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy… “
Thoughts in the Box
“But” – In contrast to being afraid of those who threaten us or our beliefs- see 1 Peter 3:14
Lit. “Set apart Christ as Lord” – Ephesians 1:20-21
“In your hearts” – the sanctuary, the place, where Christ wants to be
worshipped. – Ephesians 3:17
Sunday’s truth in Monday’s mania
Colossians 3:23-24 & 4:1 –Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ….Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.
Who is the Boss of me?
Responsibility #1
In word and in deed ____________ Christ as Lord!
B. I have a responsibility to know the __________ for the resurrection.
– “…always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you…”
Thoughts in the Box
“Always” – at all times
“Ready” – prepared and willing
“Toward a defense” – Greek “apologian” – The word “apologetics” comes from this. It means a reasoned answer.
Lit. “to all the ones asking you” – “asking” is an ongoing idea, not formal but informal asking. We are mixing with others, they are seeing a difference and they are asking questions.
“The reason” – (Greek “logos” = rational discourse) concerning the
hope in you – This refers to the resurrection
“Concerning the hope in you” – It is an inward hope that works itself
out so that it makes someone ask about it.
Sunday’s truth in Wednesday’s waffling
1 Peter 1:21 – Who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Why do I believe Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior? Why am not an atheist, a Buddhist, a Muslim, or a Jew?
Why is He the Boss of me?
Responsibility #2
In word and deed _____________ Christ as Lord!
C. I have a responsibility to know the __________ in the resurrection.
– “…yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.”
Thoughts in the Box
“Yet” – Strong contrast to the haughtiness that being smart can bring “with meekness” – toward man – one beggar telling another beggar where to buy bread
“with fear” – toward God – the beginning of wisdom
“Having or “possessing a good conscience” – my behavior matches my beliefs because my life has been changed by Him. I am living in the power of resurrection.
“With the result that the one speaking against might be ashamed who blasphemed your good behavior in Christ.” – My lifestyle convicts them
Sunday’s truth in Friday’s frenzy
1 Peter 1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…
The power of the resurrected Christ working in me makes a difference
to the point that it is very very very evident.
How is He the Boss of me?
Responsibility #3
