Reaching Our Neighbors

First Words

Luke 10:25-37

And behold, I lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”

And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and you_______ as yourself

And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my _____ ?”

Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robber, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side, So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he saw him, and when he saw him, he had compassion.

He went up to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, “Take care of him and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come.

“Which of these three, do you thin, proved to be a ____ to the man who fell among the robbers?” He said, “The one who show him mercy” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

Seeking Truth

Obeying the greatest of the commandments

Lev. 19:18 “…you shall love you _____ as yourself: I am the Lord”

We cannot rightly love God or our _____ until we have God’s love in our heart!

Romans 5:5 “Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s loves has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

If we cannot keep the greatest of the commandments how can we hope to please God.

Mark 12:28-34

“…Which commandment is the most important of all?”

“The most important is, Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all you strength. The second is this: You shall love your _____ as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.

The Point is simply that our ____ is anybody who needs us, anybody whom we can help.

The “hero” of the story is a Samaritan caring for a Jew; the priest and the Levite – (professional religious workers) – are not heroes at all

The question we must answer is not “who is my _____ ” but…”To whom can I be a _____ ?”

SO……WHAT’S IT TO ME?

Luke 10:25

And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
