I was born on July 13, 1959, in Keene, New Hampshire. To the best of my recollection, my parents did their best to provide a good home for me. At the age of nine my father died of cancer. Two years later my mother remarried. My family attended a congregational church. I trusted Christ as my personal Savior in October 7th, 1973, at the age of 14.
As a freshman in high school I had many questions about God and the Bible. I asked these questions to a football coach whom I knew was "religious". He invited me to a camp called Word of Life in upstate New York. There he shared with me that the Bible taught that I was a sinner; that I could not save myself, and deserved eternal damnation because of my sin; that Jesus Christ had died for my sins and on the cross, rising again to give validity to His work, and that I simply needed to receive Christ as my own personal Savior. After his explanation I did just that. The church I became involved in after trusting Christ encouraged me to get involved and even allowed me to fill the pulpit on many occasions. After high school I went to Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake, New York. Following that I went to Liberty University and Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. All these schools not only had solid academic programs but emphasized practical service as well.
During my senior year in Seminary I worked with a church in Blacksburg, Virginia, as a Sunday school teacher, and later as a youth pastor. I stayed at that church (Harvest Baptist) for four more years as the Associate Pastor to get on the job training in the nuts and bolts of local church ministry. Ultimately the Lord lead my family and I to NYC and Calvary Chapel in January 1990. I had worked in the city for two summers while at Liberty with the Manhattan Bible Church and had prayed seriously about returning. When the door opened to come to Staten Island there was no doubt that it was the Lord's leading.
My wife and I and our three children count it a very special privilege to continue serving our Lord with the members and friends of Calvary Chapel. |
